Here’s what you can expect from this episode:
You could be getting rejected from CSM jobs you're perfectly qualified for, solely because your resume isn't giving hiring managers the information they're looking for. And I know that might sound unfair, but I've seen firsthand just how quickly this happens. When I'm sitting down with hiring managers and recruiters to review candidates, we'll open a resume, realize it's missing a key piece of information about their experience, and immediately move on to the next person. Not because they're unqualified, but because their resume doesn't tell us what we need to know.
My team and I have rewritten over 1,400 Customer Success resumes at this point, and there are four things we see again and again. In this episode, I'm walking you through the four specific edits I'd make to your CSM resume to help you start getting more interviews. We're talking about everything from explaining the scope of your role and the type of book of business you've managed to why saying you "improved retention" or "exceeded goals" isn't nearly as impressive as you might think.
We'll also get into why simply putting numbers on your resume isn't enough, how to give those numbers context so hiring managers actually understand how good they are, and one of the biggest mistakes I see CSMs make when writing their bullet points. Because here's the thing. Most CSM resumes read like job descriptions, and when you're competing against hundreds of other applicants, that's not going to help you stand out. I'll show you how to get your unique value and what I like to call your "CS flavor" back onto the page so hiring managers can actually see what makes you different.
The good news is that all four of these things are completely within your control. You don't need to go out and get more experience or qualifications. You need to make sure your resume clearly communicates what you've done, the impact you've had, and what you bring to the table. If you want to stop blending in with every other CSM applying for the same jobs and start getting the attention of hiring managers and recruiters, hit play and let's get into it!
